Captain’s Insight: Leading a World-Class Charter Aboard Arados
As the summer 2025 Mediterranean charter season approaches, Arados stands out as an exceptional choice for an unforgettable yachting experience. This 47.25m (155ft) Sunseeker is more than just a luxury yacht—it is the embodiment of refined hospitality, world-class service, and meticulous attention to detail. Owned by a prestigious group with deep roots in the high-end hospitality industry, Arados reflects a dedication to excellence that goes far beyond the ordinary.
With accommodation for up to 10 guests in five immaculately maintained cabins and a dedicated crew of 12, Arados delivers a seamless charter experience in the Western Mediterranean. Every aspect of service—from the culinary expertise of the chef to the pristine cabin care and white-glove hospitality—reflects rigorous yearly training at Robuchon's kitchens between Paris and Geneva.
Now under the command of Captain Diane, Arados enters an exciting new chapter. Having previously served as Chief Officer on board, she left to complete her captain’s exams and has now returned to take the helm after two years. With her deep connection to the yacht, her crew, and an unwavering commitment to safety and service, Captain Diane ensures every guest experience is both luxurious and secure.
To provide insight into what makes a charter truly extraordinary, we spoke with Captain Diane about her journey from Chief Officer to Captain, her vision for Arados, and the elements that make a yachting experience truly remarkable.
What inspired you to pursue a career as a superyacht Captain, and how have your past experiences prepared you to take on the unique challenges of leading a yacht like Arados?
I have never been career-driven; it was my childhood dreams that guided and shaped me into the person I am today. I was that child who would spend hours with my grandmother watching the boats, eyes filled with admiration, saying: "One day, I will be on one of them." And that day finally came.
My first experience at sea began as a stewardess during my school holidays. From that moment on, I realized that the sea would not just be a dreamlike setting, but a true calling. Little by little, I worked my way up from seafarer to officer—it became more than just a job. It became a deep passion that pushed me to constantly learn more, to understand how these vessels operate, to perfect my skills, and to take on new challenges.
Returning to Arados as Captain after two years away feels like coming home. But more than that, it is a role where I can uphold the vessel’s core philosophy—combining uncompromising safety with the highest standards of service. Every journey, every new destination, and every challenge at sea has fueled my drive to explore, to learn, and to lead. Arados is a yacht that values this mindset, and it’s an honor to be back on board with a crew that shares the same dedication.
What key elements do you focus on to create an unforgettable experience for guests, and what are your top priorities as captain?
As a captain, my job is to ensure an exceptional experience for guests while keeping the yacht running smoothly and, most importantly, safely.
Safety is the foundation of Arados. It’s not just a rule; it’s a culture. Smooth navigation, anticipating weather conditions, and ensuring the security of all on board are paramount. But a yacht isn’t just about logistics—it’s about creating a space of luxury, escape, and world-class hospitality.
Aboard Arados, service is elevated to an art form. The crew undergoes yearly training at the best hospitality schools in the South of France, ensuring unparalleled expertise in service, housekeeping, and culinary excellence. The chef, highly trained in world-class cuisine, crafts bespoke menus that cater to the most refined palates, while the interior team ensures that every cabin is immaculate, offering a true five-star experience.
A well-coordinated and motivated crew is the key to success, and I make sure that every team member not only excels in their role but also shares a passion for delivering unforgettable guest experiences.
My personal goal is to uphold Arados’ reputation for excellence. Whether it’s comfort, precision, or adventure, every detail is curated to create unique and unforgettable moments on board.
According to your experience in the charter industry, what makes Arados stand out in the market?
Arados is more than just a yacht—it is an experience shaped by an exceptional crew and an elite standard of hospitality.
One of the yacht’s defining strengths is the deep knowledge and expertise of the crew. Each member has undergone intensive hospitality and safety training to ensure that every detail, from the moment guests arrive to their final farewell, is seamless and extraordinary.
The onboard experience is elevated through:
- Exceptional culinary craftsmanship – The chef, trained at renowned institutions, creates tailor-made menus featuring the finest ingredients and innovative dishes.
- Meticulous attention to detail – The interior team provides pristine cabin service, ensuring an experience on par with the most luxurious hotels.
- A warm and dynamic atmosphere – The crew is not only highly skilled but also genuinely passionate about hospitality, bringing a personal touch to every charter.
But beyond service, Arados is built for adventure. Whether organizing a private beach dinner under the stars, thrilling water sports excursions, or fully customized itineraries, the crew goes above and beyond to craft a personalized, once-in-a-lifetime yachting journey.
Looking back on your time at sea, what are some of your most cherished memories or defining moments, and how have they shaped you as a captain?
Reflecting on my journey at sea, I am reminded of countless unforgettable moments. Every challenge I’ve faced and every experience I’ve encountered has shaped the leader—and the person—I am today.
There have been humbling moments—facing unexpected storms, navigating last-minute itinerary changes, and working with different cultures across the globe. These experiences have taught me resilience, adaptability, and the importance of staying calm under pressure.
But the greatest lesson I’ve learned at sea is humility. No matter how much experience you have, the ocean always reminds you that there is more to learn. Being a captain is about earning trust, leading a team, and ensuring that guests feel safe, comfortable, and inspired during their time on board.
